White Rock man wins king’s sum sitting on throne

WHITE ROCK (NEWS 1130) — A White Rock man discovered he won $16 million in a Lotto 6/49 draw while sitting on the toilet.

Tibor Tusnady was at home when he decided to check his lottery tickets for the Wednesday, April 15 draw, while in the washroom, says the B.C. Lottery Corporation.

“I Googled the numbers and finished,” he said. “I took my ticket out and checked and just went blank. I tried to take a deep breath, let it register, and went back and checked again and again.”

He matched all six numbers. He froze. He didn’t know how to tell his wife and waited overnight to do so.

“Eventually, we fell asleep,” said Tusnady. “The next day, after lunch, I held my wife’s hand and said, ‘Look, I have something to tell you and I don’t want anything to change with us.'”

After telling his wife, Tusnady held video meetings to tell relatives across Canada and in Hungary, followed by a toast with champagne.

Tusnady purchased the winning ticket at the Elgin Esso on Crescent Road in Surrey.

He said he plans to travel once restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic are lifted.

Tusnady said he will let his wife decide where to travel first and promises the tickets will be first-class.
