Abbotsford Police Constable set to raise money for grieving families in Nova Scotia

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – A member of the Abbotsford Police Department is spearheading an effort to raise money for the families affected by the country’s largest-ever mass shooting in Nova Scotia earlier this month.

22 people, including Constable Heidi Stevenson were killed during the rampage on April 18th.

It’s being dubbed ‘Artists for Nova Scotia – an idea set in motion by Abbotsford PD Constable Shane Dueck – who performed in a band – Dakona – once upon a time, so he’s decided to take his musical talents to Instagram Live May 8th.

He knows it’s a tough time in the world, but feels attention should still be paid to the grieving families.

“We want them to know that we’re here for them. We’re with them. We don’t want this to get lost amidst this pandemic, it’s obviously a serious pandemic, but we don’t want the families to be lost in the shuffle.” Dueck says.

He initially reached out to Ryan McAllister, an old bandmate, and the idea was quickly put in motion. A handful of acts have been booked thus far, but they hope to get some big names as well.

Dueck says he can relate to the family of Constable Stevenson – he was good friends with Cpl. John Davidson, who was killed in the line of duty in Abbotsford in November of 2017.

“I was working that day and was part of a takedown team that had to arrest the bad guy. Knowing John as a friend and hearing what was coming out of Nova Scotia I thought to myself – Okay we’ve got to do something here.”

A GoFundMe page has also been set up for donations
