Tens of thousands raised for Fraser Valley family after fatal off-roading crash near Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – A family in the Fraser Valley is seeing a tremendous outpouring of support after a tragic rollover claimed the lives of its two youngest members.

An online fundraiser has raised more than $30,000 for the Dueck family in just over one day.

“We would like to cover the funeral costs as well as provide them with enough that they can focus on healing while meeting their bills in the coming months,” the GoFundMe page reads.

The Duecks were riding an off-road vehicle that rolled off a service road and into Foley Lake east of Chilliwack Sunday afternoon. Two adults and a child made it out, but a brother and sister — aged nine and 10 — did not.

All five members of the family were wearing helmets and seatbelts at the time of the crash, Mounties said. Several people who witnessed the side-by-side enter the water tried to help the family.

The BC Coroners Service is now looking into what happened, though an RCMP spokesperson has said “there’s no indication there was anything criminal.”

Sharalee Voth, who is listed as the organizer of the crowdfunding effort, writes “to all those who have given and are continuing to give – thank you. Your kindness and generosity for this beautiful family is so overwhelming.”
