Report of racial slurs in Steveston prompts police investigation

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — After a group of people were the target of racist slurs in Richmond Friday, police are investigating.
Richmond RCMP say officers were sent to respond to a “disturbance” in Steveston near Garry Point Park.
“There was a verbal altercation exchanged where it was alleged that racist slurs were directed at a group of individuals. Frontline officers were dispatched and arrived at the scene within minutes, but prior to police arriving, one of the parties had already left,” according to a release.

Mounties say everyone involved has been identified and contacted, the investigation is ongoing.
“Richmond RCMP takes all allegations of hate-related crimes seriously. Racism will not be tolerated in any form and will be investigated to the fullest extent,” a statement says.
