NEWS 1130, CityNews Vancouver honoured with prestigious Edward R. Murrow awards

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – NEWS 1130 and CityNews Vancouver have been recognized with two prestigious Regional Edward R. Murrow awards; one for Multimedia and the other for News Series.

The Multimedia award recognizes citynews1130.com as the best in Canada under the Large Market – Radio category. This is a team award that recognizes the contributions of all of our reporters – digital, radio and television. The entry highlighted the variety of digital content we offer our audiences – from breaking news to investigative, and data journalism to analysis.

Denise Wong, Hana Mae Nassar, Lasia Kretzel, Lisa Steacy, Kathryn Tindale, Nikitha Martins, Tarnjit Parmar, Justin Slimm, Kayla Butler, Lauren Boothby, Espe Currie, and Estefania Duran, along with the many reporters and producers at both NEWS 1130 and CityNews Vancouver, contributed to this success.

The News Series award recognizes the work done by News Director Charmaine de Silva and Managing Editor Peter Wagner on “Still Fighting” — a series that explores the relevance of Pride.

Earlier this year, NEWS 1130 was recognized by RTDNA Canada for having the best large market newscast in Western Canada. That coverage included the 2019 snowfall, Jody Wilson-Raybould’s resignation, and lead up to the B.C. Throne Speech.

The Murrow Awards are the embodiment of the values, principles and standards set forth by Edward R. Murrow, a journalism pioneer who set the standards for the highest quality of broadcast journalism.

Murrow Award winning stories put public interest above all else, provide a catalyst for public discussion, and adhere to the RTDNA Code of Ethics.

Of the awards given to journalists, the Murrow Awards are among the most respected journalism awards in the world.
