Woman hit over head in ‘unprovoked’ assault in Downtown Vancouver: VPD

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A 28-year-old woman is unhurt after what police are describing as an unprovoked assault last week.

According to Vancouver police, a man hit the woman in the head with a bag filled with plastic bottles at a bus stop in the area of Davie and Granville streets just after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7.

When officers arrived, a bystander was able to point the suspect out, a release explains, leading police to arrest a 35-year-old man “within minutes” of the assault happening.

Charges of assault with a weapon have since been approved.

Now, investigators are hoping to speak with other witnesses.

“Investigators believe there was a large crowd in the area at the time of the assault and we are pleading for those who witnessed the incident to reach out to us,” Cst. Tania Visintin says in a release.

The VPD says there’s no reason to believe the public is at risk.

If you have any information, you’re asked to call the VPD at 604.717.2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477.
