Terry Fox replica shoe sells out in minutes

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Replica Adidas sneakers marking the 40th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope sold out Wednesday, minutes after they were released.

A shirt honouring Fox is also out of stock already.

But this may not be your last chance to buy them.

Darrell Fox, Terry’s brother, teased on social media that more shoes and shirts will be released.

Net proceeds from the items are going to the Terry Fox Foundation to support cancer research.

Before embarking on his cross-country run, Terry reached out to organizations for donations. One of them was Adidas, which provided him with Orion running shoes.

In 2005, Adidas released a replica shoe for the 25th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope.

Fox began his Marathon of Hope on April 12, 1980, to raise money and awareness for the disease that took his leg and, eventually, his life.

Fox passed away on June 28, 1981 in New Westminster, due to cancer that had spread to his lungs, one month short of his 23rd birthday.

To date, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised more than $800 million for cancer awareness and research.
