VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Now that B.C. has a decision in the Meng Wanzhou case, it turns out Canadians aren’t too thrilled with Huawei.

A new Research.co poll shows 75 percent of us would prefer not to have the Chinese telecommunications giant participate in the Canadian development of 5G networks.

“In four rounds of nationwide polling, most Canadians have never regarded Huawei as a welcome addition to Canada’s 5G network,” Mario Canseco, President of Research Co says.

“Now, with the COVID-19 pandemic in the background and as the court decision on Meng’s extradition was about to be rendered, this view has hardened considerably.”

The feds are still reviewing the network with faster connections and increased data in Ottawa.

The same poll finds that 78 percent of Canadians feel we should not be working to establish closer ties with China.

On Wednesday, the B.C. Supreme Court ruled the extradition hearing process for Huawei’s Meng will continue.
