VPD arrest leaves woman seriously hurt, prompts IIO investigation

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The province’s police watchdog is investigating after an arrest Monday morning ended with a woman in hospital.
Based on information from the Vancouver Police Department, investigators say the VPD responded to a call around 12:45 a.m. to a report of an attempted robbery involving a man and woman.

After a police service dog chased the two near East 57 Avenue and Fraser Street, the dog “assisted in taking the woman, the affected person in this case into custody,” says the IIO.
The woman was taken to hospital with “serious injuries.”
