NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The graduating class at Handsworth Secondary School in North Vancouver is getting creative in finding ways to stay close.

Grad Council President Jamie Gunter says his school has been taking to social media to celebrate students’ plans for the future.

He says there was an in-person ceremony –sort of.

“The way that they did it was at the learning centre on Lonsdale. They had about 15 students show up at once, and they showed up from the afternoon through the evening,” Gunter says.

“It’s disappointing for sure. Everyone went into the year expecting a year of extravagant events, but with our current circumstance, we’re learning to adapt.”

He says his class is also using Instagram to show off people’s post-secondary choices.

“Each student will send us what they’re doing for the next year, be it college, or a gap year, and we’ll make a post for them on Instagram.”

Gunter says he’s hoping to play soccer for McGill, and perhaps make it a professional career.

“If the opportunity arose where I could potentially play professionally, that would be great. Should it not, I hope to travel the world,” he says. “I hope to do something related to finance.”
