Surrey correctional officers donating pizza, coffee to frontline workers at Langley hospital

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — Members of the Surrey Pretrial Centre’s emergency response team are making a delivery to busy frontline workers.

Sumeet Sharma is a member of the team going to Langley Memorial Friday with pizza and coffee for doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff.

“In a time like this, you just hear and see on the news how hard they’re working. Just being part of the community, I want to help them out as much as I can,” he says.

Sharma has been doing food drops for weeks as a member of Canada’s powerlifting team, but only brought the ERT on board for this delivery.

“We’ve been donating food to every hospital in the Lower Mainland,” he says.

When he ran the idea by the ERT, he says they were more than happy to get on board to donate food.

Sharma says it’s an amazing feeling being able to help out.

“It’s probably one of the best things I’ve done,” he says.

“Whenever we go and deliver food supplies, you can just see on the faces of the healthcare workers they’re more than happy.”

Sharma’s powerlifting teams has already visited several hospitals around the Lower Mainland, including Vancouver General Hospital, and Abbotsford Regional Hospital, just to name a few.
