Toronto Maple Leafs player tests positive for COVID-19, virus spreads across the sports world

TORONTO (680 NEWS) — A Toronto Maple Leafs Center, Auston Matthews, is now isolating at his Arizona home after contracting COVID-19 but he hopes to be able to travel back to Toronto and participate in the team’s camp by July 10.

Matthews’ news came Friday night just before the NHL confirmed 11 players across the league have tested positive as teams have reopened their training facilities to work with small groups of players over recent days.

As for the NHL, there’s now further speculation Canada could host one possibly even two hub cities after the Federal government gave their approval for that on Friday.

But these COVID-19 outbreaks aren’t just affecting the NHL.

The Blue Jays spring training facility in Florida has been shut down after a player showed virus symptoms, which is the same area the Toronto Raptors are supposed to be heading to prepare for playing in Orlando.
