Canada Post driver in Chilliwack tests positive for COVID-19

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) — A Canada Post driver in Chilliwack has tested positive for COVID-19, and the postal service is reassuring people that the risk of the virus spreading by handling packages or letters is low.

Canada Post says the driver last worked on June 19, and was asymptomatic at the time.

“As a precautionary measure and to ensure the continued safety of all employees, a deep-cleaning and sanitization was done Wednesday of the entire first floor of the depot and post office,” reads an email from a spokesperson.

“We have been in contact with Public Health and continue to follow their recommendations very closely. We continue to keep our employees informed, while stressing the importance of following physical distancing protocols within the facility and conducting proper hand hygiene.”

The health authority has been informed, and Canada Post says risk to the public is minimal.

“The World Health Organization and Public Health Agency of Canada have assured us it is safe to handle mail, as there is a low risk of spread from products or packaging,” the emails reads.
