Surrey dad shocked after ‘sexy’ fishnet one-piece listed under kids’ section on Walmart website

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A Surrey dad is in shock after a recent search for a summer dress for his five-year-old daughter on the Walmart Canada website turned up something you’d never want your children wearing — a very revealing fishnet stocking one-piece.

“I was just in the search bar on the Walmart website, I type ‘summer clothes for kids’ and then I came across this very inappropriate picture of an adult woman wearing the fishnet dress, which is very inappropriate for the kids section,” Salman Khan tells NEWS 1130.

While he initially thought there must have been a mix-up, the disturbing description for the item left him wondering whether it really was a mistake.

Listed under the “features” for the item — which has since been removed from the website — the description says the “Summer Style Children Dress Off Shoulder Dress Striped Dresses for Baby Girls” has a design that is “very sexy for little girls.”It also says it’s “Great for party, festival, beach, travel, etc.,” is “Suitable for girls aged 3-8,” and that its “Stylish and unique design will make your kids more attractive.”

“[The description] actually makes me more concerned about the Walmart website, people who are handling it,” Khan says, adding everything about this felt “wrong.”

He wants Walmart to take a good look at the item — and description — as well as how things end up on its website.

“I mean, Walmart is a big brand, they should be paying some good dollars to appropriate writers, not some cheap content to promote their products on the website,” Khan adds. “I discussed it with my wife and it was really shocking, to both of us, why a brand like Walmart is doing such things. Thank God I was not with my daughter, but it was really alarming for us.”

While it may be appropriate for adults, Khan believes it should be removed from the kids section on the website immediately.

The item has since been removed from the Walmart website.

“We take customer concerns seriously,” Adam Grachnik, director of corporate affairs for Walmart Canada. “We’ve looked into the matter and the product sold by a third-party seller on Walmart.ca has been removed. The item was in the wrong category and contained an inappropriate description. We have also been in touch with the seller to review our policies and procedures.”

Still, it’s not the first time Walmart’s judgement has been called into question over items listed for sale on its website.

The company came under fire last month after “All Lives Matter” shirts were being sold online. The phrase is considered an offensive counter to “Black Lives Matter.”

Walmart had said the product was being sold and shipped by a third-party seller, and that it would forward concerns to the appropriate departments to look into the matter.
