Five people seriously wounded in drive-by shooting in Toronto

TORONTO (NEWS 1130) — Five people were seriously injured when at least two suspects randomly began shooting at individuals in Toronto’s west end late Friday night.

Police say they were called to the area after multiple reports of gunshots just before 10:30 p.m. EST.

When police arrived they discovered a woman in her 50s along with two men, one in his 40s and another in his 30s, all suffering from serious but non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Police later said two more people showed up at an local hospital also suffering from gunshot wounds. They are also said to be in serious condition.

Police say they are searching for two suspects who fled the scene.

“Completely reckless,” said Insp. Norm Proctor. “These individuals with no regard for human life just took it upon themselves to shoot out of their vehicle at anybody who was in that area.”

The shooting was one of several incidents police responded to across the Greater Toronto Area Friday night.

Police say six to seven male suspects were firing at a vehicle shortly after 11:30 p.m. EST. Numerous shell casings were found in the area.

Police were also searching for at least three suspects after shots were fired at a home.

There were no reported injuries or victims. Police are searching for at least one suspect.

Earlier in the afternoon, a 26-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen following a shooting incident outside the Scarborough Town Centre shopping mall.
