Scam impersonating hospital staff, phishing for personal information: VCH

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Vancouver Coastal Health is out with a warning about a new scam, where someone appears to be representing themselves as a hospital employee.

According to VCH someone claiming to be a staff member with Squamish General Hospital has been calling people, asking for personal information.

“Including full name, Social Insurance Number and date of birth,” the release reads.

VCH says while it may appear the call is coming from the hospital, it is a scammer phishing for information and their claims are false.

RCMP have been notified, but in the meantime, you’re being reminded to never give out your personal information to strangers.

“If you receive an unexpected call from Squamish General Hospital, please don’t provide any personal information. No one from the hospital would ask for detailed identification information, such as your Social Insurance Number, over the phone.”

Contact Squamish General Hospital at 604-892-5211, if you receive a similar call to check its legitimacy.
