BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — A worker has died at a construction site in Burnaby in the area of 14th Avenue and 18th Street Tuesday morning.

A statement from the office administrator at Ledingham McAllister Properties has told NEWS 1130, “there was a tragic accident this morning.”

Macron Construction manages the site and explains the man worked with one of the company’s trade partners and was excavating to run pipes under the road when he died.

“This company has its own safety protocols and procedures that govern their work, therefore we cannot speak on their behalf about their safety oversight,” says Marco Paolella, president of Marcon.

The site was shut down for the rest of the day.

BC Coroners Service and WorkSafe BC are investigating the death to determine the cause of the incident and if there are any contributing factors.

WorkSafe says it was notified of a “serious incident” around 10:30 a.m.

The person’s name is not being released at this time.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
