Fire at Langley townhouse damages multiple units, leaves one family displaced

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) — A fire at a townhouse in Langley Friday night has left one family without a home.

The fire at the building near 88th and Walnut Grove Drive apparently started on a patio and quickly spread.

Russell Jenkins is with Langley City Fire Rescue Service, and he says there has been some serious damage to the building.

“Looks like a fire started out on a patio, rolled up into the soffit area and then got into the attic space and ultimately affected three units,” he tells NEWS 1130 Saturday.

No one was seriously hurt by the fire.

Jenkins says while the cause of the fire hasn’t been determined yet, remember to barbecue on your patio.

“It’s best practice to if you’re going to barbecue outside in an open area where there’s no minimal or next to no danger of any exposures or setting anything on fire,” he says. “I know it’s difficult nowadays around staying home and trying to entertain themselves at home but just as a fire safety message really is just to be extra vigilant when having barbecues or fire pits on patios and things like that.”
