Humidity cranks up the heat in Metro Vancouver today

Temperatures could hit 32 degrees in some parts of the Lower Mainland

Meteorologist Russ Lacate says the humidex will make the temperature feel like 37 degrees inland

The forecast cools on Friday

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Make sure you find ways to beat the heat today — it’s going to be a hot one.

Meteorologist Russ Lacate says the temperature could reach a high of 32 degrees.

“Down by the water’s edge the breeze will actually blow — so English Bay, some of the beaches, the dyke in Richmond — it’ll be windier, about 27 under a bright blue sky,” Russ says. “But it’s the other 90 per cent of the Lower Mainland I’m a bit more worried about because the sea breeze does not work its way much farther inland.”

Today’s forecast brings with it more sun, a bit of haze, and more humidity than we’re accustomed to, Russ adds.

“The humidex value is going to make [the inland high] feel more like 37 [degrees] through the second half of the day,” he explains.

And if you were hoping for a bit of a reprieve from the heat, Russ says you’ll have to wait until later this evening, with temperatures only expected to cool overnight.

Tomorrow brings lower temperatures — with an expected high of 25 degrees, a “brief passing shower or two,” and even the possibility of a couple of thundershowers.

“Big change of pace kicks in on Friday. It’s a much more comfortable forecast pattern,” he says.
