White Rock councillors call for improved physical distancing measures at some restaurants

WHITE ROCK (NEWS 1130) — White Rock councillors are calling on local restaurants to ensure patrons are following physical distancing rules.

The topic was discussed during last week’s council meeting. Without naming any specific places, coun. David Chesney says four restaurants don’t have any markings to help people keep a safe distance.

“We all know who they are. Why can they not – at the very least – get some kind of markings on their sidewalks to spread those people out.”

Chesney says the other issue is people stepping onto the road to get around big crowds in popular spots like Marine Drive, which he says is a safety issue.

“Without looking or thinking, they step out onto the road to go around that gathering of people. This is a recipe for disaster. It’s only a matter of time before somebody, and perhaps a little child, gets clipped.”

City staff say they are having conversations with the businesses, and that those conversations will continue.
