Surrey crash results in ‘catastrophic damage’ to vehicles, people relatively unhurt

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Three vehicles sustained “catastrophic damage” in an impaired-driving related crash Thursday night, but the Surrey RCMP says the occupants — including two kids — walked away relatively unscathed.

“Miraculously, all of the people involved — which included two young children — escaped with only minor injuries,” Corporal Elenore Sturko explains.

The crash happened on a stretch of Highway 99 through south Surrey, near King George Boulevard, around 9:30 p.m.

Sturko says one vehicle was on its roof when officers arrived on scene.

“The driver of the vehicle that was driving against the flow of traffic was identified and then subsequently arrested for impaired operation and dangerous driving,” Sturko explains. “This is being investigated as an incident of impaired driving.”

Four people were apparently taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Sturko is reminding everyone not to drive after consuming alcohol or drugs.

“[This crash] could have had fatal consequences but luckily, in this case, all parties, including two young children, escaped with only minor injuries,” she says.

“In these types of collisions, people can have life-altering injuries and they can have fatal consequences, so it is very fortunate that all the parties were able to walk away from this collision.”
