VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The 64-year-old man who was found badly beaten on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside on Thursday has died from his injuries.

Vancouver police say Jeff Strom was hurt in the area of East Cordova Street and Dunlevy Avenue around 5:30 p.m. that day. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and died two days later, on Saturday.

The VPD says one person is in custody and is charged with manslaughter.

James Frederick Fierheller was initially arrested for assault causing bodily harm, police say.

Investigators believe there are witnesses with information about what happened who have not yet spoken with police.

“Any information they can provide could be critical to the investigation,” Sergeant Aaron Roed says.
