Woman says her SUV was vandalized twice over parking spot dispute

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — A Clayton Heights woman says she’s been left sad and frustrated after her SUV was vandalized twice recently, and she thinks it all has to do with a parking dispute.

Navjot says she usually parks her vehicle in one of the two spaces in her garage in her townhouse complex. But since she’s moving, the garage is more crowded with boxes and packing supplies.

“We started taking one vehicle outside on the street where everyone normally parks, and we’ve been living in this neighbourhood for the past couple of years. And we have parked on few occasions outside, and there was never an issue,” she says.

But in July, someone scratched the SUV from the front door to the back door and left a “nasty” note.

“You get this warning once. If you park like this again you will have you’re (sic) vehicle damages in a way that ICBC won’t fix. This is you’re (sic) only warning so pull up and let others park,” the note reads before using vulgar language.

After receiving the note, Navjot and her family decided not to park in that spot and reported the incident to Surrey RCMP.

“Then we started parking on different spots.”

But they decided to use the space again on Monday, only to find the passenger side of the window smashed the next morning.

“He must have used a very hard, like a bat or stone. I don’t know what because it’s not easy to break these kinds of windows,” she says.

There is no confirmation if the person responsible for the scratch and note is also accountable for the broken window. Still, Navjot says she’s convinced the same person is behind both incidents.

She says all said and done, the scratch and broken window will cost her $600.

“We pay taxes as well. it’s not that he owns the road,” she says. “He doesn’t have to be that harsh like damaging and costing people money.”

Navjot tells NEWS 1130 she and her husband will be parking their vehicles in their complex parking spaces.

Navjot is also asking anyone in the area of 194 Street and 66th Avenue who may have any information to come forward and contact the Surrey RCMP.
