A 20,000 square-foot hardware story in Surrey has been destroyed by a fire

Surrey Fire Services says the fire spread quickly, but no one was hurt

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — A hardware store has been destroyed by a fire in the Port Kells area of Surrey Monday afternoon.

Steve Serbic, assistant chief of operations with Surrey Fire Services, says the second-alarm fire brought 26 firefighters to the scene near Harvie Road and 88th Avenue.

When crews arrived, Serbic says one-quarter of the roughly 20,000 square-foot hardware store was engulfed in flames. After making sure everyone was out of the building, crews starting battling the blaze, he says.

“It’s an open-area type of building, so there’s a lot of product in there and the fire moved very quickly,” he explains.

“The building is a total loss.”

No one was hurt.
