Search suspended for missing Coquitlam hiker

COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) — Coquitlam RCMP and rescue team members decided Monday to suspend the search for a hiker missing since last week.

The police investigation into Ali Naderi’s disappearance will stay open, RCMP Cpl. Michael McLaughlin says in a release.

Naderi, 52, hasn’t been seen since the afternoon of Aug. 23, when he went hiking on a trail in the Eagle Mountain area.

A camera captured an image of Naderi on the trail, showing him wearing a light jacket, shorts, and hiking boots.

Police previously mentioned Naderi was missing some important equipment, including a communication device.

Searchers said he is known to hike alone in that area almost daily. However, a concerned citizen called police after observing that Naderi’s vehicle had been parked many hours longer than usual.

Naderi is a Persian man with brown eyes and salt and pepper hair. He is 5’10” tall and weighs about 185 pounds.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550.
