COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) — The Coquitlam Crunch trail will remain closed through the long weekend after conservation officers failed to capture a black bear that swatted a runner on the leg.
A trap was set after a bear was caught on camera swatting at a woman last weekend. It was removed by the B.C. Conservation Officer Service after failing to trap the bear.
Some people have voiced concern for the bear, starting an petition petition to have it relocated rather than euthanized if captured. It had more than 4,400 signatures as of Friday.
UPDATE | CO's removed the bear trap at the #Coquitlam Crunch trail this morning. The bear was not captured & the trail remains closed. In July, CO's removed a bear trap after several days following an incident where a child was bitten by a bear. For more: https://t.co/of4cKWQvXZ pic.twitter.com/l2kcYFU2c3
