NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — An industrial silo collapsed Friday at a wood pellet terminal in North Vancouver.
The silo, at the Fibreco plant just east of the Lion’s Gate Bridge, collapsed just before 2:30 p.m.
District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services said all employees are accounted for.
“We do have units on scene now,” said Jeremy Duncan, assistant fire chief. “There has been a silo that collapsed.”
He said it is still intact, but tilted over.

The silo is one in a cluster at Fibreco, located on McKeen Avenue.
Puneet Sandhu, who works at Fibreco, said the silo is taller than a three-story house, but knew few other details.
She didn’t hear the silo collapse as the terminal is usually noisy with sounds from trains and trucks.
Sandu added the silos, in general, are used to store pellets. She didn’t know if the silo that collapsed was being used or empty.
“As of now, all we know in the office is that, yes, a silo collapsed,” she said.
Fibreco, according to its website, is one of the largest wood biomass handling terminals in the world.
