ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) — Abbotsford-born Chase Claypool caught his first NFL touchdown in his second career game.
Claypool was taken 49th overall in this year’s draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers after a stellar four-year college career at Notre Dame.
Abbotsford's Chase Claypool just caught his first NFL touchdown in his 2nd career game, and it was a beauty! He becomes the first British Columbian to catch an NFL touchdown since Oakland Raiders TE Teyo Johnson, who's from White Rock, in 2004. #NFL #BC https://t.co/QriNJMa2op

On Sunday, during a game against the Denver Broncos, he became the first British Columbian to catch an NFL touchdown in 16 years.
The last person to do it was Oakland Raiders tight end Teyo Johnson, who’s from White Rock, in 2004.
At 22 years old, Claypool graduated from Abbotsford Secondary just four years ago.
When the Steelers selected him in late April, Abbotsford Mayor Henry Braun said it was a very exciting moment for the city and he would keep cheering him.
“I think they’ve got a gem of a football player. He is a diamond in the rough and I predict he’s going to be one of the great ones,” he said.
Claypool finished Sunday’s game with three catches for 88 yards and one touchdown.
