VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A woman walking with her husband in a grocery store parking lot in East Vancouver was stabbed in an apparently random attack Sunday.

According to police, the 47-year-old woman was at the Safeway at East Broadway and Commercial Drive around noon when she was “suddenly stabbed” by another woman.

“The woman’s husband, along with a customer and two Safeway staff members, were able to hold the female suspect until police arrived minutes later,” a release from the Vancouver Police Department says about the victim.

“The stabbing victim was rushed to hospital with what is now believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Two of the men who helped out also received relatively minor injuries.”

A woman in her 30s was arrested.

“Based on the initial investigation, the suspect did not know, or have previous contact with any of the victims,” says Cst. Jason Doucette.

“We are very thankful for the brave actions of those who intervened to stop this woman from escaping.”

The investigation is ongoing.
