NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) — Chalk messages demanding masks be made mandatory in schools were left across the pavement surrounding one New Westminster school Tuesday.
One message in front of Fraser River Middle School, that appears to have been written by students, reads, “We are young, we are here, and we are deeply, deeply, afraid.”
Another alleged that students at the school were coming to class without their masks and sharing their vapes with “dozens of people.”
“Kids are still sharing vapes in the bathroom with dozens of people and coming to class without a mask” These messages in chalk have been written outside of #NewWestminster’s Fraser River Middle school. @CityNewsVAN @NEWS1130 @BT_Vancouver pic.twitter.com/qYhVoEwXBn

It’s unclear who exactly wrote the messages, but the concern is evident.
This comes on the heels of multiple schools issuing exposure warnings, including Fraser River Middle School, according to Fraser Health.
The exposure happened between September 15 and 17 and families were notified on Monday.
As of Wednesday morning, there have been more than 30 potential exposures at schools but no transmissions so far.
NEWS 1130 has reached out to the principal and the School Board for comment.
