Langley school reports first COVID-19 exposure in district

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – Another Lower Mainland school has reported a COVID-19 exposure, this time in the Langley district.

Parents with students at Gordon Greenwood Elementary in Langley were sent an email on Thursday.

The infected person was at the school on Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.

The Fraser Health Authority says it’s begun contact tracing to identify any staff or students who may need to self-isolate or monitor for symptoms.

The note says that someone within the school community has tested positive but, as usual, doesn’t specify if the person is a student, teacher, administrator or staff member.

“This notice does not mean that your child has been exposed to COVID-19,” the notice on the Langley Schools website reads. “This Early Notification letter is an alert that someone within the school community has tested positive for COVID-19 and if there was any increased risk to your child, you would be contacted directly by Fraser Health.”

Only people who have been identified as having been directly exposed to the coronavirus will be contacted by public health officials.

“Please have your child continue to attend school and monitor for symptoms compatible to COVID-19 as per your school policies,” the notice says.

This is the first case of COVID-19 at a school in the Langley district.
