Two-year-old child, mother in hospital after being hit while crossing street in Coquitlam

Editor’s note: This story has been updated after RCMP corrected the child’s age.

COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) — Three people have been seriously hurt after two separate incidences Monday evening, including a two-year-old child who is in critical condition in hospital.

The child and their mother were hit while crossing the street in Coquitlam near Tantalus Court and Pinetree Way Monday around 6:30 p.m., according to RCMP. Pinetree Way Elementary is nearby.

The child is fighting for their life, and the toddler’s mother was also seriously hurt.

RCMP says the driver did stay around after the crash and cooperated with police.

Neither speed nor impairment is considered to be a factor at this point, Mounties say.

The investigation is ongoing.

There’s no word on charges at this time.

In Langley, another collision around 7 p.m. resulted in a motorcyclist being taken to hospital in critical condition.
