Charges laid in Vancouver shooting of man carrying baby

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Two men who were arrested after a shooting in Vancouver Tuesday afternoon have now been charged with attempted murder.

Vancouver Police says 35-year-old Liban Hassan and 24-year-old Ahmed Ismail will remain in custody until their next court appearance next week.

The shooting took place near Dunbar Street and West 29th Avenue and according to the VPD a man carrying a baby was believed to be the target.

A woman and a three-year-old child accompanied the man carrying a baby in a car seat. As they were leaving a restaurant, two people apparently opened fire on them.

The woman, child and baby were not harmed, but the man who was shot was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Wednesday morning Cont. Tania Visintin said officers were able to apprehend the suspects nearby as specially-trained Emergency Response Team medics applied first aid until paramedics arrived.

“It’s frightening for the neighbourhood and the consequences could have been far worse,” she said.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives is asking anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area at the time of the shooting is asked to call investigators at 604-717-2541.
