VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — A Nanaimo RCMP officer has been charged with assault in connection to an arrest in December 2018, according to the BC Prosecution Service.

Const. Tim Mason was charged Thursday in Nanaimo Provincial Court with one count of assault causing bodily harm for his involvement in the arrest and subsequent detention of someone who was apparently intoxicated in public on Dec. 2, 2018.

Mason is to make his first appearance in court on Dec. 8.

The charges were approved by a Crown Counsel “with no prior or current connection” with the officer.

As the matter is before the court, BC Prosecution Service will not be releasing additional information or commenting further, says spokesperson Dan McLaughlin.
