Netflix Canada raising prices on some plans again

TORONTO (NEWS 1130) – A Netflix subscription could cost you a little more as the streaming giant raises some of its prices again.

Netflix Canada says the standard monthly plan is going up by a dollar to $14.99, while its premium plan is increasing by $2 a month to $18.99.

The monthly price for a basic plan remains unchanged.

This is the second time in two years that Netflix Canada has upped its prices. New members will see the update prices immediately while existing customers will notice the change over the coming weeks, the company says.

Existing members will be notified about the price increase via email and the Netflix app 30 days before the new prices are applied to them, it adds.

Netflix has cancelled some of its programming recently due to COVID-19 pandemic-related issues, including “Glow,” “The Society” and “I Am Not Okay With This.”

The streaming giant says it’s implementing the price increase so it “can invest more in films and shows as well as the quality of members’ product experience.”

Netflix last raised its prices in Canada in November of 2018. The basic plan was bumped up by a dollar at the time to $9.99, while the standard and premium plans were both upped by $3 to 13.99 and 16.99 respectively.
