Trinity Western University altercation turns into homicide investigation

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) — The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is looking into the death of a Langley man after an altercation involving campus security at Trinity Western University last month.

Langley RCMP initially responded to a report on Sept. 30 of an agitated man on campus who was involved in an altercation with campus security, according to IHIT.

A 31-year old man was found unresponsive and taken to hospital in critical condition. IHIT took over the file a couple of days later.

“Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, not related to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict and that there are no ongoing public safety concerns,” says Det. Lara Jansen, with IHIT.

“This investigation is in its early stages. However, there are no further updates at this time.”

Langley RCMP previously said the man wasn’t a student at the school, but for privacy reasons, didn’t release his name.

“He was just acting irregularly and in an agitated state yesterday afternoon in and around Trinity Western, which alerted campus security prior to the altercation that ensued,” Langley RCMP Sgt. Rebecca Parslow said then.

She added the man was “relatively unknown to police.”
