PARKSVILLE (NEWS 1130) — A man turned himself in on Sunday after a young woman was found dead the day before on a median along the highway near Parksville.

“The investigation into the fatal hit-and-run is continuing, and no one has yet been charged,” Oceanside RCMP Const. Jeff Pelat says in a release.

The 55-year-old man is from Woss, a village near Port McNeill on Vancouver Island. He turned himself in to Kelowna RCMP after seeing his truck in the media.

A woman in her 20s was found dead on the median of Highway 19 near Parksville on Saturday.

RCMP also says a vehicle of interest in the fatality has been located.

“It has really been because of tips from the public received as a result of the media coverage that we have been able to locate this vehicle so quickly,” Pelat says.

Whether the man is charged may not be known for months, he adds.
