VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Four people were arrested late Wednesday after protesters set up tents and blocked the intersection of Main and Hastings streets.

“Three people were arrested for breach of peace and one person was arrested for intimidation and obstruction,” Vancouver Police Const. Tania Visintin says in an email.

About 25 protesters initially blocked the intersection.

Visintin says the demonstrators were protesting homelessness and defunding the police.

By around 11 p.m., the protest had ended and the majority of the people involved had left the area, she added.

According to the police department, officers were on the scene “should anything arise.”

The tents were removed from the roadway, but traffic remained blocked.

The intersection was closed for a while due to the protest.
