COVID-19 outbreak declared at New Westminster care home

A case of COVID-19 at the Queen's Park Care Centre was reported by the health authority Saturday

The staff member who tested positive is in self-isolation, contact tracing is underway, visitors are restricted

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) — Fraser Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Queen’s Park Care Centre in New Westminster after a staff member tested positive for the virus.

The case was reported by the health authority Saturday.

“A rapid response team is at the site. Communication with residents and families is underway,” according to a statement. “The staff member is currently in self-isolation at their home.”

The centre has both acute and long-term care units, and the outbreak is “confined to long term care.”

Contact tracing is underway and visitors have been restricted.
