Man in Richmond arrested, injured for allegedly stealing gardener’s van

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — A 48-year-old man who allegedly attempted to steal a van from a Richmond worksite was arrested by RCMP Thursday.

A video posted to Reddit shows a white van taking off, before crashing into the back of a commercial truck, then backing into a ditch.

A man is then pulled out of the van, before another man comes by with a large board and starts hitting him.

A little before noon, Mounties received calls that a gardener’s vehicle was stolen near Cooney and Spire roads.

When police arrived, the vehicle was in a deep ditch with significant front-end damage.

The suspect driver was still on scene when police arrived and he was later transported to hospital for undisclosed injuries.

Charges have not yet been laid and the suspect has been released from custody.

This investigation remains active and ongoing.
