VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — An extreme weather alert has been issued, which means some extra shelter spaces are being made available in Vancouver for the homeless.

Extra mats will be rolled out at Directions Youth Services Centre on Burrard and the Evelyne Saller Centre on Alexander Street.

The extra spaces will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

To reduce the risk of transmitting COVID-19, physical distancing will be encouraged.

Temperatures will be hovering around the freezing mark throughout the weekend.
