CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) — A fire that saw a Chilliwack home engulfed by flames Sunday morning was deliberately set, and now is under investigation, according to the Chilliwack Fire Department.

A news release from the Department says crews were called to the scene on Charles Street, near First Avenue at around 3 a.m.

When they arrived on the scene, they found the back porch of the two-storey home completely on fire, but the family of five inside was able to get out safely.

According to the release, “Firefighters quickly knocked the fire down and entered the house to confirm the location of the occupants, and ensure the fire was extinguished.”

It also says the home suffered smoke and water damage, but it was mostly contained to the first floor.
