Remains found floating in recycling bin off Vancouver’s Kits Point identified

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Human remains found in a large recycling bin, floating in the water off Kits Point earlier this month have been identified as those of a 57-year-old Vancouver man.

The Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crime Unit is investigating the murder of Douglas Wanke.

The Canadian Coast Guard recovered the blue bin after multiple calls from people on the water around 11 a.m. on Oct. 18.

Vancouver Police and the BC Coroner’s Service attended and determined that the remains in the bin were human.
