VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A man with autism is recovering in the hospital with a fractured hip after he was found badly hurt in a lane near Granville Street on Friday.

Vancouver Police say the 46-year-old suffered a fractured hip and is still recovering in the hospital after undergoing surgery.

“Investigators canvassed for surveillance video in the area and found a clear image of the suspect believed to be responsible for the serious assault,” a release reads.

“The image was distributed to all police officers in the city. A heads-up officer from the Neighbourhood Response Team recognized him as someone he had encountered a few days previous.”

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and police are recommending a charge of aggravated assault.

Police have not indicated if this attack was random.
