BC Ferries cancels several sailings due to wind warning

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A wind warning has forced BC Ferries to cancel several Tuesday morning sailings.
Seven major BC Ferries routes have been affected by high winds.
Cancellations and delays have been reported on sailings between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, between Tsawwassen and the Southern Gulf Islands, Comox and Powell River, Powell River and Texada, and between Quadra and Cortez islands.

Deborah Marshall with BC Ferries says crews are closely monitoring the situation, with a wind warning in effect for the South Coast.
“I would suggest if any customer was planning on travelling with BC Ferries today, please do check out our website and check out our current conditions and our travel advisory page. We’re posting up-to-date information there and we’ll certainly let customers know if there are further cancellations,” Marshall tells NEWS 1130.

The warning, issued Monday, says gusts hitting 90 km/h are possible. Wind will ease up after the cold front passes, but it will be gusty into Tuesday afternoon.
The weather warning covers most of the South Coast, with parts of Vancouver Island also expected to see strong winds.

“The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us. We don’t take the decision to cancel sailings lightly, as we know customers rely on us to get to their destinations. We will resume service as soon as it is safe to do so,” reads an advisory from BC Ferries.
