RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — A Mountie in Richmond shot and killed a large dog that reportedly lunged at officers while they were responding to a request for backup Wednesday evening.
Two officers initially responded to a call about a man breaking into a building, when the suspect allegedly fought the police, they called for assistance.
“As the officers entered the building they encountered a person with a large dog. The individual lost control of the dog which cornered the officers in a confined space and bit two of them. Unfortunately, an officer was ultimately forced to shoot the dog as it continued to attack them,” reads a release from Richmond RCMP.
A 40-year old man was ultimately arrested for break-in.
“This was a terribly unfortunate incident for all involved,” writes Const. Kenneth Lau in a release.
“Police officers often have to make a split-second decision between being potentially seriously injured or protecting the safety of themselves, their fellow officers, or the public.”
