Smithers man arrested after refusing to wear mask in bank

SMITHERS (NEWS 1130) — A former mayoral candidate in Northern B.C. was arrested after he refused to wear a mask while inside a bank this weekend.
Randy Bell posted a video of himself on Facebook Sunday where he repeatedly refused to wear the face-covering despite being asked to.
Masks became mandatory in most of the province’s indoor public spaces, including banks, last Thursday.
Smithers RCMP confirms officers were called to a local bank because someone was not wearing a mask, and despite the efforts of police officers to get him to cooperate, he was detained and escorted from the business.

The man was eventually released without any charges, and was “directed to review the current public health orders in place.”
Bell ran unsuccessfully for a town council seat in a by-election in October. He also made a run for Mayor in 2018.
