Forge FC CONCACAF League match to go ahead despite positive COVID-19 test

HAMILTON (CityNews) – Hamilton’s Forge FC’s CONCACAF League quarterfinal match up against Haitian side Arcahaie FC is going ahead despite positive COVID-19 tests from both clubs.

In a statement, the league says a staff member from Forge and two Arcahaie players have tested positive and are isolating from the rest of their respective teams.

All the other members who travelled to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, have tested negative and will participate in Tuesday’s meeting, which will determine which side will advance to the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League.

The two-time CPL winners Forge are the only Canadian team playing internationally, qualifying for the 2020 CONCACAF League by winning the 2019 North Star Shield, and again qualifying for the 2021 tournament by winning the 2020 Canadian title.

The winner of the Forge-Arcahaie match will take on the winner of CD Marathon (Honduras) and Deportivo Saprissa (Costa Rica), which will also be playing Tuesday despite also having players testing positive for COVID-19.
