VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The Canadian Coast Guard raced into the waters of English Bay Tuesday afternoon after a training exercise went wrong, and two people ended up with significant injuries.

A bulk carrier was conducting a drill when a lifeboat suddenly released and dropped into the water. Two crew members were on board when the boat fell into the water.

A mayday was issued after the lifeboat began to sink.

The Coast Guard and Emergency Health Services gave the crewmembers some medical aid, then took them to shore.

No word yet on what types of injuries were sustained.
