VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A young man from Burnaby is dead after he was stabbed in East Vancouver.

In a release, Vancouver Police say officers were called out to North Templeton Drive and Powell Street around 5:30 Friday afternoon and found the 19-year-old with stab wounds. He was treated by paramedics on scene and taken to hospital where he died.

Police have identified the victim as Thomas Simon and believe he was targeted.

“We did get some initial evidence from a witness who did say that they saw three people dressed in black with face masks, who were seen leaving the area,” Constable Tania Visintin tells NEWS 1130.

While no arrests have been made yet, police don’t believe the public is at risk.

Anyone with information or anyone who has dashcam footage in the area of North Templeton Drive and Powell Street between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on December 4 is asked to call VPD Homicide detectives at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is the 17th homicide in Vancouver this year.
